TEXAS HAS FOUND A HOME

Texas had received huge exposure in the newspapers, one in particular had featured him four times and still not a single call! Thinking about it, it was plain to see that he needed even more exposure. I contacted German Shepherd Rescue of Toronto and explained the situation and perhaps they could assist in finding our Tex a home as well. His picture was posted on their website, with reference to Upper Credit if you wanted to know more about him. Well…….

I will never forget the day, Groundhog Day, February 2, 2009. A lady had seen his picture on the Shepherd Rescue site and decided she should come and see our Tex. As fate would have it, we were out in the parking lot with Texas when she drove in. She knew right away that it was HIM. I had never seen Texas give ANYONE kisses. This woman got down to his level and asked him if he gave kisses and boy, did she get some nice kisses. She thought he was “absolutely gorgeous”. I think we all knew right then and there that this was a match made in heaven. This lady was a life long shepherd owner, and had recently lost her dog of 9 years and was looking for a new companion.

Needless to say, on Saturday, February 7, Texas was finally going home. He knew exactly which vehicle was going to take him home as well. We have since spoken to his new Mom and she is absolutely thrilled with Texas. He is a “gentleman” who enjoys his treats, walks and lies quietly with his mom during the evening.

All of the staff and volunteers rejoice in the fact that this beautiful and very deserving dog finally found his forever home. We would like to thank everyone who kept their fingers and toes crossed, and perhaps even prayed that Texas would be blessed with a new home and wonderful new friend.

Subject: POST FOR Happy Endings..Texas visits

We were thrilled to have “Texas” visit us recently and what a different, happy “Texas” he had become. Before adoption “Texas” was slowly declining at the shelter where he lanquished with no interest in him for at least 6 months. The caregivers were getting more and more concerned about him as he wasn’t eating well and just wanted to lie in his kennel….obviously getting very depressed and losing his hope of getting adopted. Thoughts of getting him into rescue were also pursued to no avail - then a lady visited the shelter who had recently lost her own shepherd. Instantly there was a connection, Texas even offered a kiss which had not been offered to anyone before. The effect was immediate, a connection was made, and even though Texas had to wait a few more days before finalizing the adoption, he had “perked” up as though he knew that this was “Mum” and he was going to his “forever” home.

Texas looked magnificent when visiting recently, and has blossomed in his new life. He is making “doggy friends” and loves being out in the backyard, for a dog, who some thought, would never be friends with another dog, and possibly never find a home, this is indeed a “Happy Endings” story. Mum says he is her “pal” and we could see you couldn’t pry these two apart even with a crowbar! When people ask our Shelter Staff and Volunteers “How do you handle all the sadness? The answer is right here – just look at Texas now!” – these Happy Endings make it all worthwhile.

    Rest in Peace, Dear Friend
    February 7, 2009 – October 26, 2009

Texas began his life on February 7, 2009. After over 6 months of waiting at the Upper Credit Humane Society, a wonderful lady came in to see our Texas. It was love at first sight for them both. Texas settled in to his new home like he had always lived there. He was treated to long walks, conversation and even made some new friends. This from a dog that some thought would never be friends with another dog. Texas lived happily in his new home, always welcoming Mom home from work each day. Texas developed severe problems in his spine which lead to the inability to walk and breathlessness. They knew he was in a great deal of pain. On October 26, Texas crossed Rainbow Bridge and is happily running through meadows, chewing on bones and keeping an eye on his friends back here on Earth. You were loved and will never be forgotten, dear Texas.
