Stephanie (formerly Ethel)
It's become a middle name now, since my daughter always wanted Stephanie for
her future cat name.
She's one happy, playful cat. She loves to play with little balls and
cardboard boxes, running from one to another, jumping in and out of each
one. She has her dedicated scratching spots which she uses as needed. She
eats well, dry food typically, and a little can of kitten food (tuna/white
fish) once every two days, or when she makes it clear she wants some, by
sitting by the cabinet where her stuff is stored in the kitchen, and tapping
on it, with her paw.
She has several favorite spots to sleep around the house, she loves jazz
music played real low (she jumps on the speaker and sleeps on it then...)
She plays with my daughter a lot, which I believe helps them both enjoy some
company, every day, and I can definitely tell, it is with benefit to my
daughter, as she has this extra opportunity to interact with someone, and
actually play, be active, rather than watching tv.
We have one of those large, self-cleaning (flip and roll to clean...) litter
boxes, with a deep layer of sand inside, and the box prevents spilling the
litter to the floor.
She definitely feels home by now, and I believe she looks like one really
happy cat.
Tegan (formerly Tetley)
Tegan came to visit the shelter volunteers and staff to show off how well his new owner is doing with him:)
Diesel (formerly Henry)
Diesel is thriving in his new home - enormously appreciated and loved. He came to visit the shelter recently and proved to all of us how lucky he feels with his new family.
Telly Update
Just a quick note to update you on Telly's progress. He's now named
Mac
(Macgregor). Gramma thought he needed a strong Scottish name to go with his
Boarder Collie roots.
He's settling in well. Has free run of the house with no destructive
behavior and only one accident. I had to give up the couch to him, but its a
fair trade off. He has a pack that he walks (off leash) the trails with on
weekends and fits in well now that he knows his place.
I am a bit concerned that he is beginning to show some leash aggression, but
I'm confident I can train that out of him (and me). It may just be part of
his adjustment to his new environment.
I'll keep you posted on his progress and send some pictures from the trail
soon

Flint Update
I am sending you this email to let you know how Flint is doing. Flint is doing amazing! He is part of the family. We find it hard to believe nobody adopted him before we did. He is well behaved and lovable. All around a great dog. Flint gets along well with all of us including our children and our other dog Phoenix. It's like he has always been here. Words can't even describe how close Flint and Phoenix are. It's like they have been together forever. They play together all the time. One picks up a toy and takes it to the other and then they play tug of war. They are made for each other, they are inseparable. They play non stop and love to cuddle. If u see one of them the other is right behind. Flint is one of the most gentle and kind dogs I have ever met.
Now to talk about the only issue we had with Flint. We were sitting at the table when we noticed Flint just swallowed a six inch toy. They tried to use tongs to remove it, but it didnt work. He ended up having to have surgery to remove it. Everything is fine now. He is back to his normal playful ways. At first when he got home he wasn't suppose to play but it was so hard to keep Phoenix and Flint apart. All they did was try to play and sneak around. Now all they do is play. Flint is walked frequently, at least twice a day if not more. He is an active dog and we are very fortunate to have him.
I have attached some photos of Flint. Can you please pass this e-mail along to Kathy, Flints foster parent. Kathy has done an amazing job with Flint!

Achilles Update
Just a note to say Achilles is incredible. He is the quietest
gentlest soul who is excellent on a walk and with other dogs. He in
particular loves my mother in laws senior Westie and Corgi pup. He has come
everywhere with us and walks well with his new brother Buster. He loves
playing with his kong and tennis ball and has already finished off his
stuffed whale. he has expensive taste in food and we discovered he loves
Canisource. He is already a devoted family member who tires out my two year
old and lays quietly around our 9 month old. when they cry he gets up with
us to soothe them. As well as long walks and laying on the couch by the
fireside, we also discovered he is a connoisseur of timbits and likes
blueberries.
Thank you so much for him. Please let his previous owners
know he is cherished. we are truly blessed.

Moggy Update

We just got Tyler, now Archie, last week and he is settling in like he has
been here the whole time. This is him with one of his adopted pack members,

Gracie's first night in the arms of her new special people in her forever dream home. A few days later we acquired a brother for her. They were a bit tense for a few days (mainly him) , but seemed to have warmed up
to each other. This is what I found when I got out of the shower today. So

Remember Jake? I thought I would show you what he has been up to lately.
You may get a giggle when you see that he is a star of print advertising. We
also had a TV show shot at our farm in August and Jake wanted to be an extra but
he lost out to a Jack Russell.
Jake is doing really well and running around like a youngster. Hope all is
well at the shelter.
Koda
Hello! I thought that I would write to let you know how Koda
(previously Coda) is doing. He very quickly adapted to his new home and owners,
which isn't surprising due to his friendly outgoing nature! He cried the first
few days whenever we would leave the house, but once he realized that we would
come back every time he was okay. He loves his daily walks and games of fetch
with any toy he can find! We did notice that he doesn't have the best manners
with other dogs and people, so we signed him up for a socialization obedience
class which is going well. Here in the pictures, you can see him enjoying his
training "homework" in the park! Koda is a joy to have from his husky smile to
his happy wagging tail! Just an overall great companion.
Chelsea Bunners
Ryder (previously Marigold)
The older cat is Nosey (Bing adopted from us in 2011) and the kitten is
Ryder (Marigold adopted September 2012).
Nosey was lonely so Joanne though he needed a friend. She was right. Nosey
just loves Ryder and spends all his free time cuddling and grooming her.

Remember me... it's Tiny - the 3 year old American Bulldog!
Just writing to tell you how much I'm enjoying my new home here in
Limehouse. I'm really lovin' it. Long country walks twice daily; regular
playtime in the backyard; lots of human companionship. Life couldn't be
better! (Please don't take this the wrong way but... I like this place way
better than yours.)
After my first 2 weeks getting acquainted, I started my training sessions
where I got to learn good manners and a new routine. (My new family just
wanted to set some ground rules and remind me that they're running the show
over here!)
Now that I've been here for 6 months, I've been told I am a very good
natured dog and behave impeccably on-leash and off. I didn't realize how
much I'd enjoy being told what to do!
I hope my other kennel friends will find good homes soon, too.
Anyhow, gotta run now.Time to get back to watching the squirrels and
chipmunks. Check out my pic... and my new trim figure!

Bo Diddley (previously River)
Towards the end of January of this year we adopted a puppy from you. He was
the last in a litter of ten, the lab/collie cross's from a farm in Mount
Forrest. His name was River, we ended up changing his name to Bo Diddley. I
wanted to let you know he is doing great! He was neutered about a month ago and
is up to date on all his shots. I work at a vet clinic in Toronto, and he was
recently used in a video segment with one of the doctors on the news about
dealing with dogs in the heat, you should check it out!
I think it would be hilarious to organize a family reunion for all the dogs in that litter, do things like that ever happen?!
Anyways, he is an amazing dog- thank you so much!

It's been almost two months and Simon is doing great. He goes everywhere
with us and running in the fields at the farm is his definite favourite thing to
do. Whatever room of the house we are in, he is right there with us. Here are

Hello to the Staff and Volunteers as UCHS,
Our first couple of days together as a family have been great. Rue is a
wonderful companion and is adjusting very quickly to her new home.
Thank you all for the wonderful care you gave her while she was with
you.

Just a note to let you know (as promised) how Jake is doing in his new
home.
Jake has worked his way into the family and the goings on at the farm very
well. He was quite clingy for the first bit and didn't want to let me out of
his sight, but is getting more confident as time goes on. There are no
worries that he will wander. He doesn't bother the cats and is fine with the
chickens, although he seems quite intrigued with the Guinea Fowl. Jake has
learned quite quickly to chase the Canada geese which is wonderful as we
have quite a problem with them if we aren't vigilant about harassing them.
In fact, for several years we had a service that brought dogs out to deter
the geese from staying. The company wanted $10,000 for a trained "goose dog"
so I am way ahead with Jake already! He is a very good watch dog and would
make anyone who doesn't know him think twice about coming into the house. We
had one training session with horses with Jake on a long line and will have
another this week. He showed quite an interest in the horses but he is very
clever and I don't think there will be a problem with him learning to leave
them alone. Jake is getting a lot of exercise with two shorter walks and one
long walk per day. He loves to come with me to do chores and gardening and
takes great delight in running after the golf cart and barking at it.
Unfortunately, two days after Jake arrived, Freddie our Border Collie (whom
you met when I came to see Jake at the shelter) suddenly became completely
paralysed. I had to hand feed him and give him water in a syringe. I didn't
feel that putting him through a lot of tests at the age of 13 was fair to
him, and so we decided to try him on steroids to see if that would have any
effect. He immediately had a miraculous reaction and Freddie is now able to
move about on his own and even chases the cats again. A friend of mine
suggested he may have "Coonhound Paralysis" which I thought was a joke and a
reference to Jake's arrival, but there really is such a thing. Apparently it
can be transmitted in the saliva of raccoons, and you may recall, that I had
trapped one that had been devouring my ducks. There was a dog stricken with
it not far from here which has now completely recovered. Such irony!
Let me know if you want to visit Jake and I will send directions. I can see
why you would miss him - he is quite a darling and very charming. He just
has to learn not to sleep on the bed after rolling in horse poop!

point for her, and we have signed up for classes at petsmart so we can all
learn some new skills! So far she seems pretty settled and is pretty much a
daddy's girl! She even gets on with luna, my neatherland dwarf bunny, we are
still taking introductions slowly, but so far they seem ok with each other.

Chelsea Bunn
last week. She will be free range on the main floor during the day, but
this is her enclosure at nighttime in the rec room. It's pretty awesome.
Chelsea will be happy there. They get their second bunny this week, and
once Chelsea is spayed, they will bond the two, so Chelsea will have a
little torti lop husband. They promised they will send more pics soon.

I'm Forever Home!
Hi Marika!
Well, Chelsea Bunny wasn't sure what to do with her condo but as soon as we
extended her pen, out she came! She must just feel safer and so the pen is
built to travel both levels! She has been eating her hay and has been
hunkered down in her bedding all day. I think she misses her Ali a bit but
as I type this she has just gone to her pellets and is devouring those as
well...touchdown!
